Joe Landini presents 90 DAYS OF ART (June 20 to Sept 17), a personal exploration of your artistic practice for three months. This non-codified process will create space for participants to explore their creative process for 90 days, at whatever level or in any way they choose.
BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? It means that you will spend 90 days reflecting on your artistic practice and sharing your reflections with others participating in the process. Anyone participating, can check-in and ask for gentle accountability. This means that others are willing to listen and offer feedback when requested. This process can reveal itself in any form, such as workshops/classes, zoom calls, journals, discussions and does not need to have any concrete results, such as a performance (unless that is something you desire). The process should definitely be social and all members are leaders.
WHERE DID THIS IDEA COME FROM? Joe says “I have been feeling artistically adrift since the pandemic and have struggled with feeling isolated, unfocused and uninspired. In March, I celebrated my 30th anniversary of making dances and afterwards, I felt exhausted and unfulfilled. Since then, I have been asking myself existential questions such as: Why am I doing this? Should I continue? Can I do it differently? What would that look like? Am I burning out?
IS EQUITY IMPORTANT IN THIS PROCESS? Yes, it is because equity should be deeply embedded in every part of this process. We should be asking, “Do BIPOC’s feel safe in this space? How can we support BIPOC’s if their experience is different? How can we create space for BIPOC communities?”
WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP: Joe will be sending out a questionnaire asking for your feedback, which we will discuss during the 90 Days. In the meantime, you can send suggestions for the questionnaire or suggestions for how you would contribute (Live? Digital? Teaching? Leading a discussion? Journaling? Suggest a reading?)
DOES IT INCLUDE OTHER THINGS RELATED TO THE CREATIVE PROCESS? Yes, it is possible to include administrative tasks such as branding, social media and development. The creative process is not an unintegrated component and holistically includes asking necessary questions such as "How am I supporting myself? How do I ask for help? How do I help people learn about my work?"
